Australian cycling star Stuart O'Grady has gone to court in a dispute over a tax bill. O'Grady's case came before the Federal Court in Adelaide on Tuesday with the professional rider disputing an assessment from the deputy tax commissioner for an undisclosed sum. It centres on the 37-year-old being taxed both in Australia and France on his earnings between 2004 and 2006.
The parties will try to resolve the issue through negotiations next week. Another hearing has been scheduled for October. O'Grady, who did not appear in court, is expected to return to Australia soon from his Monaco base to contest the world road cycling championships in Geelong. He has been one of Australia's leading professional cyclists for almost 20 years, winning Olympic medals and stages in the Tour de France.
