Wendy Houvenaghel, Sarah Storey and Laura Trott clocked a time of 3.24.849 on the opening night of racing in the Colombian city, 0.844 seconds behind the pace setting Kiwi trio of Lauren Ellis, Jaime Nielsen and Alison Shanks. The two teams will face off for gold on Thursday night at the Cali Velodrome while the US and Lithuania will contest the bronze medal.

In the men's team pursuit, Australia led the way with Luke Durbridge, Rohan Dennis, Michael Hepburn and Mitchel Mulhern setting a time of 4.02.739 to easily qualify in first place ahead of their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand. The Kiwi men - Marc Ryan, Sam Bewley, Aaron Gate and Jesse Sergent - clocked 4.04.612 to earn a shot at gold. Host nation Colombia were third fastest and will meet Denmark for bronze. Britain did not field a team in the event.
